Sustainability - HUNGEXPO

Sustainability

HUNGEXPO Ltd. is Hungary’s and the region’s leading exhibition and conference organizer, providing a 21st-century event environment for exhibitors and visitors since its renewal in 2021.

The next step is to play an active role in addressing global challenges – both as an event organizer and a venue – in Budapest.

As sustainability goals evolve across the events industry and sustainable event management becomes an increasing priority for organizers, Hungexpo—aligned with the commitments of its parent company, GL events—dedicates itself to reducing its own environmental impact. Particular emphasis is placed on minimizing its carbon footprint, improving waste management, engaging and supporting local communities, and promoting the physical and mental well-being of its employees.

As a company, HUNGEXPO is also dedicated to helping its clients and partners reduce the negative environmental and social impact of their events as much as possible.

HUNGEXPO’s sustainability strategy is built on three pillars: economic, social, and environmental goals. As part of our responsible corporate governance, our aim is to integrate sustainability into our business processes, align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and ensure transparent communication. Our community initiatives promote inclusivity and socio-economic growth, while our environmental commitments—such as the goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030—support climate protection and more efficient waste management.

By 2025, our goals include transitioning our electricity supply to green energy sources and significantly reducing waste through selective collection, recycling, and the introduction of compostable solutions. Additionally, we actively participate in programs such as tree-planting initiatives and support for local communities, contributing to the economic and social development of the regions we operate in.

Green Energy: From 2025 onwards, all our events will be powered by 100% green energy, using 4,200 MWh of clean energy annually.

Energy Consumption: Between 2024 and 2026, we aim to reduce our energy consumption by 15% through regular energy efficiency audits.

Waste Management: In 2025, we will gradually implement full-scale selective waste collection at our events and offices, which will become an exclusive practice starting January 1, 2026.

Climate Protection: By 2030, we will cut greenhouse gas emissions by 50%, aiming for full carbon neutrality by 2050.

Sustainability plays an increasingly important role in HUNGEXPO’s event management practices – whether it concerns exhibitions, film productions, or day-to-day operations. Through the use of green energy, responsible material sourcing, conscious catering, and food waste reduction, we strive to minimize environmental impact in close cooperation with our partners.

HUNGEXPO implements comprehensive environmental measures to reduce its ecological footprint: we use green energy, continuously improve our waste and water management, promote sustainable mobility, and place emphasis on protecting biodiversity. The principles of a circular economy are reflected across our events and overall operations.

Transparency, ethical practices, and social responsibility are key pillars of HUNGEXPO’s operations. Guided by our ISO 20121 and Access4you certifications, as well as the CSR commitments of the GL events Group, we are dedicated to fostering sustainable, inclusive, and people-centered operations – from employee well-being and equal opportunities to community engagement.
