DALIA Danube Lighthouse workshop

Date: 2 October 2024, 13.30-16.30

Location: HUNGEXPO C Pavilion (1101 Budapest, Albertirsai út 10.)

The Danube River basin is home to nearly 80 million people and is shared by 19 European countries, indicating the need to address the river basin level challenges internationally. There are indeed many water quality and management challenges whereas, the EU-funded DALIA project brings together 22 expert organisations from eight EU and associated countries to demonstrate good practices that properly manage this complex and fragile ecosystem.

Nine such good practices have been demonstrated, further developed and replicated during the project. The Plastic Cup Association, as a project partner, is the host of the Bodrog River pilot site, where it is developing replicable, European-level good practices to tackle plastic pollution of rivers building on the knowledge accumulated over the history of the Plastic Cup. The DALIA open call for proposals, launched in the summer and open until 16th of October, aims to replicate these good practices elsewhere. The Riversaver Replication Pack by the Plastic Cup Association is one of the solutions that can be applied, that support the revitalisation of rivers affected by plastic pollution by involving local communities.

The event aims to present this call for proposals and to interactively generate projects based on the Plastic Cup’s best practices and hopefully facilitate the submission of multiple proposals.

  • Management of transnational riverine litter (plastic) pollution
  • Awareness raising (incl. communication and education) about plastic pollution in rivers
  • Data collection and management (harmonized plastic pollution monitoring in rivers):
