The\nSirha Budapest trade exhibition, concluded on Thursday at the HUNGEXPO Budapest Congress and Exhibition Center, was a highly\nsuccessful event in all respects. Over 20 thousand professional\nvisitors attended the biggest food industry and HoReCa event of Central and\nEastern Europe. The Hungarian team finished in second place at the European\nfinals of the Bocuse d’Or cooking competition hosted for the second time at\nSirha Budapest, thus qualifying for the finals in Lyon.  <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hosted\nfor the fifth time, Sirha Budapest has indisputably become the biggest event of\nthe region by now, where the representatives of the gastronomy, food, baking\nand confectionery, hotel and catering and packing industries presented their\nproducts, developments and services on an area of over 30 thousand square\nmeters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDuring\nthe pandemic, the market forces shifted in a number of sectors of the economy,\nyet Hungary has good opportunities in the race to reopen as it maintained\ndevelopments even during the time of crises,” said the Deputy Sate\nSecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture at the opening event. Lajos Bogn\u00e1r<\/strong>\nadded: the food industry was the only manufacturing sector that managed to\ngenerate growth in 2020, if only at a minimum extent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

G\u00e1bor\nGanczer<\/strong>, CEO of Hungexpo explained in his welcome speech that\nthe HoReCa industry, encompassing hotels, restaurants and caf\u00e9s, wasn\u2019t licking\nits wounds during the crisis and instead developed its services, allowing the\nexhibition to exceed expectations this year. For example, one of the most\nsignificant developments of recent years was realized at Hungexpo with Sirha\nBudapest as its crucial international test, where apart from the domestic\nparticipants, professional attendees had the chance to encounter 300 exhibitors\nfrom 16 countries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nforeign exhibitors at this year\u2019s Sirha Budapest event came from countries such\nas Egypt, Lithuania, France and Greece. A number of other countries (Austria,\nthe Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Romania and Slovakia) were represented by\nmultiple exhibitors. On this occasion, the largest foreign exhibitor was Italy:\nmany guests flocked to the flavours of Italy stand, where visitors could sample\nthe gastronomy novelties of 20 different firms.   <\/p>\n\n\n

The\nbiannual event again featured a number of professional conferences<\/strong> and\nroundtable discussions focusing, amongst other things, on the issues of\nreopening, the challenges of the new situation, the market shift and the\nsituation of the labour market. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hosted\nfor the 7th occasion this year, the Future Store Innovations<\/strong> stand\ncatered to those looking for the latest commercial solutions and new products\nacross over 700 square metres, featuring 24 co-exhibitors. Apart from the\nnegotiation partners invited in advance, over a thousand guests visited the\nFuture Store stand built by Trade magazine, in the course of Hungarian and\nEnglish-language guided tours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agr\u00e1rmarketing\nCentrum\u2019s Hungarian Wine Summit <\/strong>attracted great crowds, where 91\ndomestic winemakers debuted in front of a number of international wine experts\nand journalists (including a number of Master of Wine writers) and the general\naudience.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year\nafter year, the professional competitions<\/strong> and contests are becoming\nincreasingly popular events.For the fifth occasion this year,\nthe event hosted the Sirha Budapest Dessert Competition and the now traditional\nCommunal Catering Chef Competition (K\u00d6SZ). Additionally, thanks to the\ncooperation of the Hungarian National Gastronomic Association and the Marco\nPolo Group, the stands at the unique joint cooking event of Italian and Hungarian\nchefs was filled with audience members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nyear saw the debut of the Sirha COFFEE CHALLENGE barista competition, which was\na worthy companion of the Sirha Business Caf\u00e9 \u201ccoffeehouse\u201d, the meeting point\nof the coffee and bar trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nNational Association of\nHungarian Confectioners\u2019 award-winning ice cream tasting catered to\nprofessionals throughout the three-day event. The submissions for the J\u00e1nos\nPataki commemorative competition were also highly popular and the preliminary jurying\nfor the Cake of Hungary competition also attracted many visitors, where the\nmembers of the professional panel selected the five most promising cakes that\nqualified for the next round of selection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As customary, the Sirha Budapest Innovation Product Competition <\/strong>awards,\njointly hosted with Trade magazine, were presented at the exhibition\u2019s opening\nceremony. During the evaluation of the 31 submissions of outstanding quality,\nthe jury expanded the previous 5 categories to a total of 8 different fields.\nVisitors at the exhibition had a chance to survey the submissions of the\ncompetition\u2019s finalists at the exhibition\u2019s Innovation stand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After\n2016, Budapest and Hungexpo again had the chance to host the European finals of\nthe world\u2019s most prestigious cooking competition. At the Bocuse d\u2019Or <\/strong>Europe\n2022<\/strong>, thousands of enthusiasts cheered on 17 national\nteams, including the Hungarian team, which finally finished in second place,\nthus qualifying for the World Finals in Lyon in 2023. The Hungarian team was\nled by Bence Dalnoki, sous chef at the Michelin-star Stand restaurant, assisted\nby Patrik Nyikos commis and coached by Tam\u00e1s Sz\u00e9ll, who won the European Finals\nin Budapest in 2016, while Szabina Szull\u00f3 served as the team\u2019s President. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denmark won this\nyear\u2019s competition, with Norway taking third place. The best commis chef came\nfrom Sweden, the best \u2018theme on plate\u2019 was provided by the team from the United\nKingdom while the best meat dish was served by the Swedish team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following this year\u2019s\ncontest, Jerome Bocuse \u2013 son of the competition\u2019s founder, Paul Bocuse \u2013\nstressed how amazing the event was, thanking Hungary for \u201cthe most\noutstanding European hosting to date<\/em>\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hungarian stand\nsituated next to the competition site was a huge success, promoting Hungarian\ndishes, ingredients and wines and featuring appearances from a number of\ndomestic and international guests from the beginning to the end of the\ncompetition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These three days are a celebration of the HORECA\nsector, where over 20 thousand caterers, chefs and cooks gathered and it was a\njoy to see it all come together,\u201d said \u00c1kos B\u0151sze<\/strong>, the HORECA\ndevelopment leader of METRO<\/strong>,SIRHA\u2019s key professional partner, in\nsummary of his experiences. \u201cThere is no other platform where professionals can\nmeet one another and the suppliers while getting acquainted with new\ninnovations and solutions.
